Publication Svetilnik

Samanta Kobal, razstava Svetilnik

Svetilnik is a publication for young readers, aimed primarily at students in the first cycle of primary school, as well as for preschool children with the support of parents or mentors. It is published jointly by nine public institutions and entities. Each institution contributes its own section, engaging children in interactive, age-appropriate, and fun ways, while presenting the institution’s core activities and cultural programmes.

Svetilnik stands as an excellent example of collaboration among coastal institutions and an efficient use of shared resources. Above all, however, it serves an important educational purpose. Tailored for its young audience, it features expressive illustrations, colouring pages, quizzes, anagrams, simple crosswords, creative art activities, contests, and short but engaging texts). Svetilnik introduces young readers to the themes and activities of the nine coastal institutions: the Koper Theatre, the Koper Regional Museum, the Koper Regional Archives, the Italian Community “Giuseppe Tartini” of Piran, the Srečko Vilhar Central Library of Koper, the Carlo Combi Italian Centre of Koper, the Ljubljana Kino Otok Institute for the Development of Film Culture, the Sergej Mašera Maritime Museum of Piran, and the Science and Research Centre Koper.

The first issue of Svetilnik was published on 1 February 2008. The Science and Research Centre Koper joined the project in June 2019 with its column “Wave of Knowledge.”

Carefully designed to meet the needs of all participating institutions, in terms of both content and format, Svetilnik is distributed free of charge. Three thousand copies are printed for children in all coastal primary schools, Slovenian schools abroad, and the children’s departments of the Koper Central Library and its branches. Each year, the publication garners increasing recognition and praise from the scientific community, particularly at the annual Kulturni Bazar cultural fair at Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana.

Through perseverance, dedication, professional expertise, and countless creative ideas, Svetilnik has become a cultural unicum, recognised with an award from the Municipality of Koper in 2020.
