Biography:

Borut Klabjan graduated from the University of Trieste and obtained his PhD at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, with the dissertation “Trieste and Primorska between the World Wars in the Light of Czechoslovak Diplomacy”. He also studied in Bratislava, Venice, Prague and Berlin.

He is a Principal Research Associate at the Institute for Historical Studies at the Science and Research Centre Koper, where he is active since the beginning of his career as a researcher. He teaches as Associate Professor at the University of Ljubljana.
His bibliography comprises more than 200 items, including more than 50 scientific articles, book chapters and reviews in nine languages (Croatian, Czech, English, German, Italian, Russian, Slovenian, Slovak and Swedish), he has published two scientific monographs (in Slovene and Czech), edited one volume with the international publishing house Peter Lang, and has been co-editor of five multilingual volumes.
Borut Klabjan has received numerous grants and awards for his work:

  • 2004: June-July: Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst Fellowship for doctoral research at the Archive of the Federal Foreign Office, Berlin, Germany.
  • 2005: January-June: Visiting Fellowship at the Faculty of Arts, Department of History, Charles University in Prague, Czechia (sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Czechia).
  • 2007: Slovene Research Institute in Trieste Award for the best doctoral Dissertation, Trieste, Italy.
  • 2009: University of Primorska Young University Lecturer Award, Koper, Slovenia.
  • 2011: April-October: Humboldt Fellowship at the Lehrstuhl für Südosteuropäische Geschichte, Institut für Geschichtswissenschaften, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany.
  • 2014: January-February: Visiting Fellowship Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS), Regensburg, Germany.
  • 2015: Ambassador of Science Award given by the Science and Research Centre Koper, Slovenia for individual top-level scientific achievements.
  • 2016: Marie Skłodowska Curie Fellowship, Department of History and Civilization, European University Institute, Italy.
