The laboratory of the Institute for Oliveculture (LAB-IZO) is distinguished by its high specialisation in the characterisation of olive oil, determination of the quality and authenticity of olive oil, and enjoys excellent international recognition.

The laboratory has long been accredited according to the ISO 17025 standard, participating in international laboratory comparisons for determining the quality and authenticity of olive oil and, owing to excellent results, recognised as part of the International Olive Council (IOC and BIPEA) as well as an authorised EU laboratory.

LAB-IZO is the only officially appointed laboratory for determining the quality and authenticity of olive oil in Slovenia and also the official laboratory for sensory testing of the Czech Republic, performing analyses for the needs of inspections in Slovenia and the Czech Republic. It is designated as the National official laboratory, the National reference laboratory and the Official laboratory of the Czech Republic. The laboratory continuously upgrades analytical methods, educates researchers, and modernises the infrastructure, strengthening scientific metrological excellence.
