Biography:
Prof. Rado Bohinc (1949), graduated (1971), received his master’s degree (1985) and his doctorate (1987) at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Law. He became a full professor at the University of Ljubljana in 2003. He holds a postgraduate degree in commercial law, labor and social law, EU law and a researcher at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana. He is employed as a scientific adviser and as head of the Research Center of the Faculty of Social Sciences, IDV for comparative law studies and as a Principal Research Associate at the Law institute of the ZRS Koper.
Prior to his employment at the University of Ljubljana, dr. Rado Bohinc employed at Metalka, most recently as Director of Administrative Services (1971 – 1979), Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, most recently as Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (1980-1988), as Federal Secretary for the Economy in the former Federal Government (1988-1989) and President Slovenian Institute of Management (1990). Minister of Science and Technology and member of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia was in the period 1992-1996, and Minister of the Interior and member of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia from 2000-2004. The Rector of the University of Primorska was from 2007-2011, and the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, UL, from 2015-2017. In the bodies of the Faculty and the University: President of the Management Board of the University of Ljubljana (1999-2000), Member of the Senate of the UL (2015-2017), Rector of UP and President of the Rector’s Conference of Slovenia and the Rector’s Conference of the Alps-Adriatic (2010-2011), Member of the Management Board, Head of the Chair and Head of the Research Center and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences (2015-2017). He was also a member of the ESF Council of Social Sciences, the Standing Committee for Social Sciences, and a member of the Scientific Council and International Committee of CIRIEC, the International Organization for Research in Public and Cooperative Economy and Chairman of the Board of the ARRS, Slovenian Research Agency (2015 to 2019)
In almost 40 years of scientific activity (first monograph was published in 1981), until the year 2019 prof. Rado Bohinc published 40 scientific monographs, 17 scientific essays or chapters in a monograph, over 50 original and more than 10 invited review scientific articles.
Prof. Bohinc’s pedagogical activity includes years of teaching at all three levels and pedagogical growth at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, beginning as an assistant professor, continuing as an associate professor, and since 2003 as a full professor, habilitated at the University of Ljubljana from 1988-2019 (first as a visiting professor, then as a full-time and part-time employee). He has also lectured occasionally at other faculties of University of Ljubljana, University of Maribor and University of Primorska, all in Slovenia. As a visiting professor, he has occasionally lectured at other Slovenian universities at the University of Primorska, Faculty of Management and University of Maribor, Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Organizational Sciences Kranj, Faculty of Security Sciences.
He gave numerous invited lectures at foreign universities from different countries in Europe (Spain, Italy, Germany, Norway, Austria, Sweden, Russia) as well as the USA and Asia (India, Nepal and South Korea), mainly in the field of comparative corporate governance and law, institutions and policies of the European Union. In addition to lectures at foreign universities, Rado Bohinc also delivered 23 invited lectures with a scientific contribution at the conference, 4 non-published invited lectures at a conference and contributed 30 scientific papers to conferences. He was a mentor in 10 doctoral theses and co-mentor at 2. He was also a mentor in 25 master’s and 2 specialist papers and a co-mentor at 4. He was also a mentor in 84 master’s theses.
Research activity:
Rado Bohinc has been an active researcher ever since his master’s and doctoral studies in the 1980s, i.e. nearly 40 years. In the years 1999 to 2019, he was the promoter of the basic research project 9 times, the associate 4 times and the head of the research programme group (2007-2010) in the field of corporate law and governance and social responsibility. In more detail, the fields and results of the research are evident from the titles of numerous scientific publications (monographs and proceedings) summarizing the research achievements. From 1992-1999, he participated in 15 market and international research projects.
At the end of 1980s, he led a comprehensive social and economic system project with a group of 12 then-respected experts and scientists: ‘HOW TO MARKET?’, which was one of the decisive foundations for the economic reforms that followed in the years to come (1987, CCIS).
His active participation in the research on the comparative aspects of corporate structure in Europe and the USA should also be emphasized, that represents a research basis of the Slovenian Companies Act (1992). In the 1990s, he has been involved in several market and international research projects in corporate relations and management. He is currently a member of the ‘Public and Private Sector Network Management’ research programme (P5-0166).
