Law Institute

The Law Institute at the ZRS Koper is the only institute in the country that approaches the phenomenon of law outside the established schematization of sciences that places legal science in the field of social sciences. The genealogy of legal science of the Western tradition demonstrates its close connection with sciences that today belong to the field of humanities (philosophy, history, linguistics). This opens up a new perspective that places legal institutes within the framework of the broadest – Western and European – spiritual tradition that has historically shaped us. We are convinced that this is the only way to correctly understand the challenges of democratic culture and respond to them appropriately. Therefore, we also build on the communication of academic discourse with legal practice, which is why we cooperate with various organizations that connect lawyers of different professions. First and foremost, we include in our research work the experiences that arise from working in the judiciary, as this remains a paradigmatic discourse for law. We also deal with issues of corporate governance in the public sector and the economy, especially in the context of social responsibility as a modern model of managing society.

Competencies and achievements

Within the framework of the ARRS fundamental research project Corporate Governance as a Tool for Overcoming the Global Economic and Financial Crisis, researchers have prepared numerous proposals for systemic changes in the field of corporate governance of publicly and privately owned companies, the banking and public sectors, as well as in the field of human rights and minorities. A collection of the contents from the first part of the fundamental research project was published with a title that corresponds to the title of the fundamental project.
