Biography

Dr. Maja Gutman Mušič is an interdisciplinary scholar working at the intersection of consciousness studies, science and technology studies, and media studies. Her research combines artificial intelligence with philosophical and psychological inquiry, focusing on human–machine interaction as well as the psychological dynamics and archetypal structures of dreams. At Alma Mater Europaea University, she teaches courses in media studies and the humanities.

Her co-authored digital monograph 2020 Dreams: Toward a New Understanding of the Dreaming–Waking Continuum (Stanford University Press, 2023) develops an interdisciplinary framework for understanding dreaming as a continuous cognitive and cultural process. Integrating philosophy, media studies, anthropology, and computational text analysis, the work introduces a novel model for interpreting dream experience within broader technological and socio-historical contexts.

In 2021, as a Fulbright Visiting Project Scientist at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), she conducted research on archetypal structures in one of the world’s largest online datasets of dream reports, applying advanced natural language processing methods to examine deep cognitive and symbolic patterns.

Since 2016, she has presented her work at more than 40 international conferences and symposia worldwide.
