Institute for Kinesiology Research

The Institute for Kinesiology Research IKARUS was founded with a vision of developing a ‘different’ kind of kinesiology science in Slovenia. ‘Kinesiology for quality of life’ is still the vision of our team of researchers working in the fields of kinesiology and ergonomics. Numerous projects and notable scientific results confirm this for us, motivate us, and show us a better tomorrow.

Who are we

IKARUS brought a fresh breeze to the Slovenian scene, and from the very beginning, it actively engaged internationally, mingled with big names, and took on major challenges. Today, thanks to this, things are much easier for us, and we are recognized and in demand.

The research team at the institute is diverse and interdisciplinary, but with a shared goal – to maintain a healthy environment for people and protect them in the direction of sustainable, high-quality development. This interdisciplinarity, a vision from the very beginning, today connects us to many initiatives across the entire university, allowing us to successfully collaborate with every single member of our university. The research equipment, friendliness, and readiness of the researchers, along with our knowledge, are the result of the purposeful actions and decisions of all institute members, which today enables us to carry out the biggest projects.

Competencies and achievements

It should be emphasized that today we are most proud of our international research program »The influence of simulated weightlessness on the human organism«, as part of which we carry out the so-called »bed rest« studies, where we study the collapse of man in weightless space – space. Such an approach makes it even more possible to study the processes of human decline in the event of sudden movement inactivity (illness, injury), sedentary lifestyle and aging. It also enables testing the effectiveness of various interventions that can be used to counter this. It is also worth mentioning the management of the national research program “Kinesiology for the quality of life” and a series of national projects in the fields of kinesiology, ergonomics, sports, biomedical engineering, etc. The results of our work are recognized in the best journals and also in our own scientific journal Annales Kinesiologyae.
