KAPODISTRIAS RESIDENTIAL FELLOWSHIP

A joint initiative of the European Cultural Centre of Delphi (ECCD) and the Science and Research Centre Koper (ZRS Koper)

The Kapodistrias Residential Fellowship is a one-month, residential research fellowship, providing accommodation and a contribution toward travel, hosted at the Palazzo Tiepolo-Gravisi in Koper, Slovenia.

Established through cooperation between the European Cultural Centre of Delphi (ECCD) and ZRS Koper, it commemorates the legacy of Ioannis Kapodistrias by fostering scholarly exchange across the Upper Adriatic and broader Mediterranean regions and by promoting transcultural and interdisciplinary dialogue.

The Fellowship is open to early-career (including postdocs) and established researchers and supports high-quality research in the humanities – particularly in philosophy, comparative literature, history, and religious studies, with an emphasis on cultural and intellectual exchanges across the Mediterranean and beyond. Preference will be given to proposals in these fields that demonstrate a cross-disciplinary and transcultural focus.

The Fellowship at a Glance

Fellows will be hosted at ZRS facilities in Palazzo Tiepolo-Gravisi as part of the Institute for Philosophical and Religious Studies and provided with a private apartment and access to research facilities and institutional resources. The institutional value of the Fellowship amounts to €1,500, corresponding to accommodation and research facilities for a one-month residency (no direct monetary award is granted). In addition, the European Cultural Centre of Delphi will support the Fellow’s travel (up to €500–750) by arranging and covering transportation directly.

Applications must include a cover letter outlining the proposed research project (max. 2 pages) and a recent CV. Applicants are encouraged to contact Dr Alberto Parisi ( ) at the Institute for Philosophical and Religious Studies at ZRS Koper prior to applying.

Fellows are expected to participate in and contribute to the academic life of ZRS Koper.

The application deadline falls on August 1, 2026. The fellowship will include a one-month residency at ZRS Koper, taking place between November 2026 and July 2027, with exact dates to be agreed in consultation with the host institution.

Fellowship conditions

  • Fellows selected under this scheme agree to acknowledge explicitly the support of the Kapodistrias Residential Fellowship, citing the grant number, in all publications and scholarly outputs resulting from research undertaken during the residency.
  • In addition, Fellows are expected to organise a scholarly event in consultation with ZRS Koper and with the academic and institutional involvement of the European Cultural Centre of Delphi (ECCD). The event may take the form of a lecture, conference, colloquium, workshop, or exhibition (physical or digital), and may be held either during the period of the Fellowship or thereafter at the Palazzo Tiepolo-Gravisi.

Kapodistrias Fellowship Selection Committee would consist of members appointed by ZRS Koper and ECCD.
