SANTORIO RESIDENTIAL FELLOWSHIP

The scheme is open to mid-career and senior researchers whose work would benefit from access to archival resources in the Veneto, Istrian, or Balkan regions, or who wish to organise a scientific event in collaboration with the Science and Research Centre (ZRS Koper, Slovenia).

The scheme at a glance

Fellows will be hosted at ZRS facilities in Palazzo Tiepolo-Gravisi and provided with a private apartment, access to research facilities, and a €500 contribution toward travel or sustenance.

Applications must include a cover letter outlining the project or event (max. 2,000 words), a recent CV, and a reference letter from the applicant’s head of department. Eligible events include conferences, workshops, symposia, and exhibitions. Applicants are encouraged to contact Dr Tilen Glavina, Head of ZRS historical research unit, before applying.

Fellows will contribute a report or article to the joint CSMBR and ZRS Blog and are expected to participate in the academic life of both institutions. Scientific outcomes from the Santorio Residential Fellowship may be considered for publication in PSMEMM or Sudhoffs Archiv (see below).

The application deadline falls on 15 September 2025.

The fellowship will include a one-month residency at ZRS Koper, taking place between March and June 2026.

Fellowship Conditions

– Any research outcome associated with the fellowship must explicitly acknowledge the support of the Santorio Residential Fellowship, citing the grant number, the ZRS–CSMBR cooperation, and, wherever possible and convenient, the logos of the fellowship and those of the research centres ZRS–CSMBR.

– Any research sojourn resulting in an original scholarly publication should be submitted preferentially to Sudhoffs Archiv or, if mutually agreed by the journal’s editors and the Scientific Committee, to another peer-reviewed academic outlet of equivalent standing.

– A lecture or colloquium should be organised at the end of the tenure period.

– In the case of fellowships awarded for the organisation of an event in Koper, proceedings will be submitted preferentially to the series Palgrave Studies in Medieval and Early Modern Medicine (PSMEMM – Springer Nature) or to Sudhoffs Archiv (Franz Steiner Verlag), unless otherwise agreed with members of the scientific committee.
