The “From Ancient Practices to New Tools for Olive Pruning” conference as an opportunity to acquire valuable knowledge

On Friday, 15th March, the Institute for Oliveculture at ZRS Koper, in collaboration with the Koper Regional Museum, organised an interesting conference dedicated to olive groves and their care, entitled “From Ancient Practices to New Tools for Olive Pruning”.

The development of technology in agriculture has radically changed the approach from ancient practices to new tools for olive pruning. Traditional methods of olive pruning have gradually made way for innovative machines and tools which allow for more precise and efficient pruning. With modern approaches, farmers can achieve higher productivity, quality pruning and consequently better results in olive cultivation.

Dr Flavio Bonin from the Sergej Mašera Maritime Museum in Piran enthusiastically presented the influence of winter on olive cultivation and the efforts of agronomists to expand olive groves in the second half of the 18th century. He explained to the participants in great detail the method of olive cultivation over time and presented them with related literature that can be borrowed at the Piran museum.

This was followed by a theoretical and practical presentation on olive pruning, conducted by Rok Babič from the Institute for Oliveculture at ZRS Koper in the olive groves of the garden of the Koper Regional Museum. High-quality tools from renowned companies Ascon, Agro Bržan, ST-Garden were also presented during the event.

The event was an opportunity to acquire valuable knowledge about the care of olive groves and the use of the latest agronomic approaches.
