Dr. Gašper Pirc, a researcher at the Institute for Philosophical and Religious Studies ZRS Koper, will present his book tomorrow, Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 6 PM, in the City Reading Room of the Central Library Srečko Vilhar in Koper. The book, Virtual Worlds and the Values of the Digital Future, is published by Alma Mater Europaea University Press and Annales ZRS.
The work offers a comprehensive and critical reflection on the philosophy of digitality and artificial intelligence in contemporary society.
The discussion with the author will be led by Ana Jana Špiletič.
In the book, Dr. Pirc follows current trends in technological development and evaluates them through philosophical, ethical, and social perspectives. He explores key issues such as online law, moral standards in the digital environment, digital violence, the ethics of artificial intelligence, the status of digital agents, and the internal structure of online and virtual worlds.
Special emphasis is placed on the normative aspects of future online communities, which are becoming an increasingly important part of the social fabric in a time of growing tensions and uncertainty. The author highlights the influence of platform and surveillance capitalism, which often reduces individuals to data points and behavioral profiles, thereby significantly shaping digital identity.
The monograph is an important contribution to contemporary philosophy and the humanities, as it opens up complex questions about values, ethical challenges, and the organization of society in the digital age, inviting readers to reflect carefully on what it means to be human in a time of digital transformation.
The work is intended for readers interested in:
- the philosophy of digitality and virtual worlds,
- the ethics of artificial intelligence and online practices,
- values and moral standards in the digital environment.
