The Centre operates as a cross-border interinstitutional centre for the study and documentation of Venetian history and tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
The Centre conducts archival and educational activities and keeps databases of materials and records (from the archives and libraries of Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, and Slovenia) in electronic form, as a basis for the operation of the Centre and its digital archives.
As the Centre’s field of activity encompasses material and living cultural heritage, its research topics come from a broad range of research fields related to the institutions, society and economy, culture, language, art and architecture of the Venetian period.
Research and documentation work of its researchers focuses in particular on the acquisition and examination of resources and records related to the history of Slovene Istria in the period of the Venetian Republic from archives and libraries in Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, resources on the history of the Republic of Venice from Slovene archives and libraries, as well as to documented relations between the centre of the region and its periphery (Venice – Istria), and between the urban and rural areas in this region, through a comparative historical examination of this cultural landscape, its fine arts, music, linguistic and dialectal influences.
