Presentation of Dr. Massimo Sbarbaro’s Work

Dr. Massimo Sbarbaro, a research associate at the Institute for Historical Studies of the Science and Research Centre Koper (ZRS Koper), will give a lecture on 30 September 2026 at the University of Bologna, Ravenna Campus, Department of Cultural Heritage. As part of the course Byzantine Civilisation, he will deliver a seminar lecture entitled “Documents and the Construction of Historical Memory between the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period: The Case of Venice”.

On Tuesday, 6 October 2026, at 6:00 PM, he will present his book on the Fourth Crusade at the Scuola Dalmata dei SS. Giorgio e Trifone in Venice.

Founded in 1451, the Scuola Dalmata is a historic confraternity of the Dalmatian community in Venice. During the presentation, Dr. Sbarbaro will discuss his book Storia della Quarta Crociata (Annales ZRS, 2026) with Dr. Tilen Glavina, Deputy Director of ZRS Koper, whose research also focuses on early modern history. The event will open with welcoming remarks by Piergiorgio Millich, Guardian Grande of the Scuola Dalmata dei SS. Giorgio e Trifone.

On 30 October 2026, at 2:30 PM, Dr. Sbarbaro will also present both of his books on the Fourth Crusade, with particular emphasis on the recently published second volume, at the Centre for Humanities of ZRS Koper. The presentation will take the form of a discussion with Professor Giorgio Vespignani from the University of Bologna.
