Biography:
Egon Pelikan (1963) has received his doctoral degree at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana in 1998 with the dissertation entitled Politični katolicizem na eni in drugi strani rapalske meje (Political catholicism on both sides of the Rapallo border). In the same year he was selected at the call of the Italian ministry of science for one-year scholarship at the Department of history of the University of Trieste (Dipartimento di Lingue e Letterature dei Paesi del Mediteraneo).
In 2004 he was selected by the German national scientific foundation Alexander von Humboldt for one-year pedagogical and research work at the Department of history of the University of Essen-Duisburg. Besides, he was the visiting lecturer at the Saxonian Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Leipzig in winter semester of 2011. In the framework of his research work he deals mostly with the modernization period, namely the period of Slovenian history in the international context and the history of political ideologies, especially from the end of 19th century until the end of World War II.
Since 2004 Egon Pelikan is the head of the Institute for historical studies at the Science and Research Centre and member of the Scientific Council.
Egon Pelikan is a member of the editorial boards of Acta Histriae and Qualestoria and a member of the Alexander von Humboldt Research Foundation. In 2008-2010 he was the President of the Federation of Historical Societies of Slovenia.
Dr Pelikan's bibliography comprises more than 200 items, including several monographs published in Slovenia and abroad.

- grant of the research foundation Alexander von Humboldt in 2004 (one-year research and pedagogical work at the Department of History at the University of Essen),
- award “Glasnik znanosti” received in 2003 by the Science and Research Centre Koper, University of Primorska,
- University of Primorska award for scientific and pedagogical prominence in the year 2009,
- three months visiting research fellowsip of Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung at the Sächsische Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Leipzig in 2011
- Science and Research Centre Koper award “Glasnik znanosti” for particular top-level scientific achievements in 2017
- Zois award for particular top-level scientific achievements in 2017.
