The Science and Research Centre of Koper has acquired five new projects in the framework of the Interreg programme. This achievement underscores the institution’s continued excellence in its work.
The projects that cover a diverse array of topics and extend across various areas will be coordinated by the Institute for Historical Studies at ZRS Koper, the Institute for Oliveculture at ZRS Koper, the Mediterranean Institute for Environmental Studies at ZRS Koper and the Institute for Linguistic Studies at ZRS Koper.
Four of the five projects are part of the Interreg VI-A Italia-Slovenia 2021-2027 programme, where ZRS Koper is involved as a project partner:
1. The KAŠTellieri project,Sustainable Cultural and Tourist Destination, the Cross-border Land of Prehistoric Fortified Settlements – the Hillforts of Upper Adriatic, is led by the Institute for Historical Studies at ZRS Koper and will focus on the preservation, evaluation and protection of the cultural heritage of prehistoric hillforts (kaštelir) in the framework of the sustainable cultural and tourist destination Cross-border Land of Prehistoric Fortified Settlements – the Hillforts of Upper Adriatic. The aim of the project is to revive and promote the hillforts of Upper Adriatic through innovative and sustainable cross-border tourism products with a focus on digitalisation, social inclusion and green transition.
2. The AI-GRAPE project, Support for Digitalisation in Viticulture for Pest Control in Cross-border Areas between Italy and Slovenia, is led by the Institute for Oliveculture at ZRS Koper. The AI-GRAPE project’s objective is to develop and implement a Decision Support System (DSS) created with artificial intelligence by combining data from weather stations, microenvironmental sensors, drones, satellites, and insect traps.
3. The BioTech2Agri project under the coordination of the the Institute for Oliveculture at ZRS Koper will aim to increase innovation in the agri-food sector by transferring biotechnology potential and improving the quality of biotechnology value chains in the cross-border area.
4. The CrossTerm Project, Standardisation of Cross-Border Institutional Terminology, led by the Institute for Linguistic Studies at ZRS Koper will strive for the standardisation of legal-administrative terminology in the languages of the programme area, which will improve the quality and efficiency of language services in public administration.
The fifth project – 4PETHABECO, Strengthening Cooperation to Address Socioenvironmental Challenges of the EUSAIR flagship project PET HAB ECO, was approved for funding by the Interreg IPA ADRION 2021-2027 programme:
5. 4PETHABECO, Strengthening Cooperation to Address Socioenvironmental Challenges of the EUSAIR flagship project PET HAB ECO is led by the Mediterranean Institute for Environmental Studies at ZRS Koper. The project aims to preserve the populations of large carnivores by testing innovative solutions for their protection and restoration of their habitats, especially through the strengthening of green infrastructure, the reduction of coexistence conflicts and the improvement of connectivity.
By acquiring these projects, ZRS Koper aims to drive further progress and innovation in research while promoting sustainable development in the cross-border area.
