The Start of the ScreenFood Project

Ekipa ScreenFood

In June 2024, the project entitled “Metrology for Food Safety in the Circular Economy: Targeted and Screening Methods for Contaminants in Food and Recycled Packaging” – ScreenFood, commenced with active participation from ZRS Koper, the Institute of Oliveculture.

Project aims to advance and harmonize analytical techniques for contaminant quantification in both food and food packaging, with a specific emphasis on recycled materials.

The first project meeting, the “kick-off,” took place on June 5 and 6 at the headquarters of the lead partner, INRIM (Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica) in Turin, Italy. During this meeting, project partners discussed management strategies and established key guidelines for the successful execution of the project.

Coordinated by INRIM, ScreenFood includes a consortium of 23 beneficiaries, including ZRS Koper. The project is funded through the Metrology Partnership Research and Innovation actions by EURAMET e.V. and will span three years, from June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2027.

The implementation of the ScreenFood project is a pivotal initiative in the ongoing efforts to enhance food safety and promote sustainable practices in the food industry. By standardizing analytical techniques and developing reliable reference materials, the project aims to significantly impact the monitoring, control, and management of contaminants. This will ensure safer food products for consumers and support the promotion of a circular economy.
