The Mediterranean Institute for Environmental Studies ZRS Koper has prepared a video about the Rižana River

The Mediterranean Institute for Environmental Studies ZRS Koper at the Science and Research Centre Koper (ZRS Koper) has produced a video about the Rižana River. This initiative is part of the POSEIDONE project (Promotion of Green and Blue Infrastructure for New Environmental Development, Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia 2021-2027, ITA-SI0400091) under the Interreg Italy-Slovenia programme.

The video aims to raise awareness of the ecosystem services provided by the Rižana River and its ecosystems to local communities. It also summarises in a user-friendly way the results of extensive research and reports on the biodiversity and ecosystem services uniquely supported by the Rižana River. While the river is best known as a source of drinking water, it also provides several important regulatory and cultural ecosystem services that are essential for human well-being. The sustainable management and conservation of these ecosystems is therefore of paramount importance.

The POSEIDONE project focuses on the North Adriatic functional area, stretching from Chioggia to the Slovenian coast. It will contribute to the sustainable development of this region at a cross-border and macro-regional level, promoting the protection of biodiversity in natural and protected areas. The main outcomes of the project include the enhancement of biodiversity in the North Adriatic coastal area through the creation and protection of green and blue infrastructure, the development of tools for sustainable tourism planning, and the implementation of activities to promote, improve knowledge and valorise the area, together with the conservation of the natural and agricultural landscape.
