The HUMAN Project Extends to the UN Buffer Zone in Cyprus

What happens when more than two hundred people from eighteen countries exchange views in a discussion on hate speech, online activism, and public policy? We experienced this firsthand as part of the HUMAN project (Digital Hate Interrupter Activism to combat structural racism promoting inter-community cooperation through digital technologies, No. 101144478), when the project consortium held three webinars in March.

The webinars were linked to educational activities that we tailored to individual countries and carried out in Italy, Spain, Sweden, Portugal, Cyprus, Greece, and Slovenia. The activities took place at universities, youth centers, research institutions, and even in the UN buffer zone in Cyprus, further highlighting the social and symbolic significance of this initiative. These meetings were based on group work, analysis of real-life cases, practical exercises, and a co-creative process. Participants explored topics in the fields of online activism, intersectionality and discrimination, the fight against hate speech, and youth empowerment.

We are pleased that participants expressed a high level of satisfaction with the event and reported improved knowledge and a greater willingness to use HUMAN tools in their work. Specific tools can also be found here: https://humanactivists.eu/modules/
