Invitation to the scholarly Panel on Salt-working at the AMEU Conference It’s About People 2025

Institute for Philosophical and Religious Studies at Science nad Research Centre Koper (ZRS Koper) invites you to attend the scholarly panel, organised by collaborators of the basic research project Grain of Salt, Crystallising Cohabitation: Salt-Making as Experiential Environmental Wisdom, implemented at the Science and Research Centre Koper, in collaboration with the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

The scholarly panel “Approaching Salt-working: From Heritage to Experiential Environmental Wisdom” is part of the 13th AMEU Conference It’s About People 2025, held online, on Wednesday, March 19th, 2025, at 11.00.

Panel presentations:

  • Primož Pipan (ZRC SAZU): Heritagization of the Sečovlje saltern and the salt making in the municipality of Piran;
  • Daša Ličen (ZRC SAZU): Heritagizing Salt-Production: National Identities and the Boundaries of Natural and Cultural Heritage;
  • Jerneja Penca (ZRS Koper) and Matjaž Kljun (ZRS Koper): Coexistence as a “state of mind”: legal norms, their implementation and the practice of saltmaking;
  • Petri Berndtson (ZRS Koper): The Elemental Poetics and Phenomenology of Salt and Salt-making and
  • Maja Bjelica (ZRS Koper): Salt-working as environmental cohabitation: an experiential ecoethnography.

The working language of the conference panel is English.
