On Monday, June 30, 2025, the 4-year European project SCORE (Smart control of the climate resilience in European coastal cities, Horizon 2020-LC-CLA-2018-2019-2020) concluded.
Representatives of ZRS Koper, the Slovenian partner of the project, Erik Kralj and Cécil Meulenberg from the Mediterranean Institute for Environmental Studies of ZRS Koper, briefly presented the results of the SCORE project and the Piran living laboratory, in which the attendees participated.
The closing meeting, hosted by the Municipality of Piran in the Tintoretto Hall, was attended by citizens, representatives of the Municipality of Piran, the Okolje Piran and local interest groups. In an informal and relaxed atmosphere, the representatives of ZRS Koper thanked the most proactive individuals, and all participants received gift bags.

“We hope that the co-created and co-designed results of the Piran Living Lab, including a set of priority ecosystem adaptations, a plan for the restoration of terraced gardens on two plots under the Church of St. George, and two cost-benefit analyses related to different sustainable solutions, will be further developed as an ecosystem approach using sustainable and nature-based solutions. It is expected that the planned future implementation of the revitalization of publicly accessible green spaces and the restoration of historic rainwater tanks will take place in cooperation with the ViTA (Valorization and Innovation of Traditional Architecture and Landscape in Piran) working group, which was established within the SCORE project. This group recognizes terraced landscapes and traditional construction techniques, such as dry stone walls and permeable stone pavements, as important landscape elements and effective approaches to increasing the city’s climate resilience,” said representatives of the ZRS Koper in their presentations.
After the presentation, the participants first took a group photo and then socialized in the Tartini House, where they continued the discussion on the project topics and the potential of the Piran Living Lab over snacks and drinks.

The gift bags received by the participants contained promotional materials and the final SCORE project brochures, which are also available in digital format.
