Vesna Mikolič, PhD, appointed new President of the Slovene PEN Centre

Vesna Mikolič, PhD, Head of the Institute for Linguistic Studies at ZRS Koper and Professor at the Department of Slovene Language and Literature at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Trieste, has been appointed the new President of the Slovene PEN Centre. She was elected at the Centre’s electoral general assembly on 21 September 2026. She succeeds Tanja Tuma, who had led the Centre since 2021 and will remain actively involved in its work.

Dr Vesna Mikolič has so far served on the association’s executive board and chaired the Alps–Adriatic round table at the 58th Bled International Writers’ Meeting. She is the author of several well-received books, including Izrazi moči slovenskega jezika (Annales ZRS, 2019) and Ali bereš Cankarja? (Slovenska matica, 2021). Her first poetry collection, to be published in the Sončnice series, is also forthcoming.

As stated by the association, she will work to promote Slovene literature and reading internationally, with a particular focus on fostering intergenerational connections and cross-border cooperation.
