Dr. Lenart Škof presents the philosophy of breath in Trieste

Scientific advisor and head of the Institute for Philosophical and Religious Studies  (IFRŠ) at ZRS Koper, Dr. Lenart Škof, will present his book Filosofia del respiro (Castelvecchi, 2025) in Trieste on Friday, January 16. (Castelvecchi, 2025). The volume is the Italian translation of his English monograph Breath of Proximity (Springer, 2015).

The discussion with the author will be moderated by Dr. Pier Francesco Corvino, also a researcher at the IFRŠ ZRS Koper, who translated Škof’s book into Italian.   The event will take place at 6 p.m. at the Ubik Bookstore, located in the Tergesteo passage at Borzni trg 15 (Piazza della Borsa 15).

An interview with Dr. Lenart Škof, centered on his concept of the philosophy of breath, which, despite its philosophical focus, is intended for a wider audience, will take place as part of the Leggi un libro, conosci un autore sloveno (»Read a book, get to know a Slovenian Author«) initiative.

“The neglect of breath has far-reaching consequences for philosophy and the humanities,” Dr. Lenart Škof observes. In his view, this forgetting constitutes a profound symptom of contemporary crises – ranging from political and social alienation and digital overexposure to environmental and climate crises – and points to the need for a renewed philosophy of breath that re-evaluates the embodied, ethical, political, and ecological dimensions of human existence. By bringing into dialogue diverse philosophical traditions, the author advances a vision of a more just and democratic future grounded in equality, freedom, and an ethics of breath.
