Dr. Lenart Škof, a prominent Slovenian philosopher and Dean at the Institute for Philosophical and Religious Studies ZRS Koper, was recently featured in the prestigious German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ). The article delved into his innovative philosophy centred around breathing, an approach that connects existential, spiritual, and social dimensions.
Dr. Škof’s work draws attention to breathing as a fundamental act that not only sustains life but also symbolises interconnectedness and relationality in human existence. His philosophy stands in contrast to traditional Western philosophical frameworks, placing emphasis on non-dominance and mutual respect between cultures, which he believes reflects Slovenia’s historical position as a nation that has never sought to dominate others.
In the article, Dr. Škof also critiqued the work of fellow Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek, particularly his engagement with themes of violence in philosophy, positioning his own approach as more aligned with peace and coexistence.
