Director of ZRS Koper Prof. Dr Rado Pišot and minister Mateja Čalušić sign agreement on continued cooperation

Prof. Dr Rado Pišot, Director of the Science and Research Centre Koper (ZRS Koper), and Mateja Čalušić, minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, signed an agreement on continued cooperation at Plavje, near the future site of the Competence Centre for Oliveculture and Other Mediterranean Crops.

The Science and Research Centre Koper represents an important scientific and research institution whose work contributes to the development of science, the strengthening of expert foundations for public policymaking, and the sustainable development of the local and broader social environment. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food recognizes it as an important partner in providing professional and scientific expertise in the fields of agriculture, food, and rural development. In particular, ZRS Koper played a central role in shaping the conceptual foundations of the new Competence Centre for Oliveculture and Other Mediterranean Crops. Through its expertise and infrastructure capacities, the centre is being positioned within the broader research landscape and developed as a future regional reference point.

At the signing ceremony, Prof. Dr. Rado Pišot emphasized: “The establishment of the Competence Centre represents an important developmental milestone for our Institute of Oliveculture and for the broader research environment. At the same time, we are aware that the centre’s long-term success will depend on adequate human and infrastructural support, as well as continued cooperation with domestic and international partners.”

The event was also attended by Dr Igor Papič, minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, who joined a symbolic olive tree planting ceremony on this occasion. He highlighted the importance of cooperation among ministries in advancing science, innovation, and the economy, and stressed that ZRS Koper, through its activities, represents an important pillar in the development of the research landscape in the field of Mediterranean crops.
