Academician Prof. Dr. Jože Pirjevec Presented His Monograph on Kardelj in Koper

The presentation of the book Kardelj: socialistični utopist na oblasti (Kardelj: A Socialist Utopian in Power, Beletrina, 2026), held on Wednesday, 16 September, attracted a full audience to the main hall of the Centre for Humanities of the Science and Research Centre Koper (ZRS Koper). The discussion with the author, Academician Prof. Dr. Jože Pirjevec, was moderated by Dr. Mateja Režek. Both are researchers at the Institute for Historical Studies of ZRS Koper.

The newspaper Primorske novice reported on the event under the headline:

Pirjevec: “Kardelj was extremely well-read”

The Trieste-based historian examined the life and work of Edvard Kardelj, the most influential Slovenian politician in socialist Yugoslavia. “Kardelj was extremely well-read. He was familiar with the entire body of Marxist literature and took the transition to communism very seriously. He was ambitious and sought to bridge the gap between Marx’s theory and the practical implementation of the dictatorship of the proletariat,” Pirjevec pointed out. He also discussed Kardelj’s relationship with Tito, the assassination attempt against him in 1961, his nationalism, the system of workers’ self-management he had envisioned, and the constitutions he played a major role in drafting.
