The Law Institute of ZRS Koper and EMUNI University Successfully Organize the 4th International Conference in Koper

The Science and Research Centre Koper (ZRS Koper) and the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) successfully organized the 4th Scientific Conference entitled “Corporate Responsibility for Due Diligence on Environmental and Human Rights Impacts in EU and Slovenian Law” on 6 May 2026 at the Centre for Humanities of ZRS Koper.

The international panel featured distinguished experts from abroad:

  • Dr Bastian Brunk (Research Fellow, Max Planck Institute, Hamburg)
  • Jan-Christian Niebank (Senior Policy Advisor, Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, Germany)
  • Dr Federica Agostini (Assistant Professor of International and European Business Law, Utrecht University)
  • Dr Vito Bevivino (Researcher in Business Law, University of Siena)
  • Dr Marco Fasciglione (Researcher, National Research Council of Italy – CNR)
  • Prof. Dr Parameswar Nayak (Professor and Dean, Birla School of Management, Birla Global University, India)

The afternoon session of the conference and the round table discussion on the implementation of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) into the Slovenian legal system was also attended by the Human Rights Ombudsman, Dr Simona Drenik Bavdek. Representatives of the Ministry of the Economy, Tourism and Sport also participated, including Karla Pinter, M.Sc., Director-General of the Internal Market Directorate, and Martina Gašperlin, Head of the Commercial Law Division.

The conference provided an important forum for discussing the implementation of the CSDDD, sustainable corporate governance, and corporate responsibility regarding human rights and environmental protection in both the European Union and Slovenia.

The event was organized as part of the research project “Corporate Law Measures to Enhance the Competitiveness of the Slovenian Economy in Relation to Compliance with International Human Rights and Environmental Treaties and the Fight Against Climate Change” (ARIS Project No. V5-2514).
