At the well-known Olio Capitale fair, which took place in Trieste over the past weekend, the AI-GRAPE project was presented, in which ZRS Koper participates through its Institute for Oliveculture. The lead partner in this Slovenian–Italian project is the Area Science Park, while the Slovenian partners also include Vinakoper and the Primorska Chamber of Commerce. Within the project, they are exploring the potential of artificial intelligence in agriculture—specifically in the management of diseases in viticulture and olive growing.
The AI-GRAPE project partners aim to develop digital tools and predictive models that will help olive growers better manage orchards, address the impacts of climate change, and improve both yield and quality. The system developed within the project uses advanced technologies for disease management in viticulture and olive growing and introduces decision-making models based on artificial intelligence.
The Olio Capitale fair is organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Venezia Giulia, with co-organization by the Municipality of Trieste together with partners.
On Friday, the Institute for Oliveculture was presented at the exhibition stand by colleagues Saša Volk and Gašper Kozlovič, while on Saturday Dr Maja Podgornik and Jakob Fantinič gave lectures on the climate vulnerability of the olive tree in the cross-border area and on digital agriculture and plant protection, which are the focus of the AI-GRAPE project.
The AI-GRAPE project is co-financed by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia Programme.
