Guérande: contemporary traditional salt-working

The Science and Research Centre Koper (ZRS Koper), organized its second event within the framework of the projects Consortium for knowledge and technology transfer – KTO3 and the fundamental research project »Grain of Salt, Crystallising Cohabitation: Salt-Making as Experiential Environmental Wisdom«, this time titled Knowledge transfers between communities and environments: exploring salt-working practices – Guérande: contemporary traditional salt-working
The event, held once again in the Sečovlje Salina Nature Park and hosted by the company Soline d. o. o., focused on sharing the latest research findings, experiential practices, and knowledges derived from researching salt-working as a unique form of knowledge transmitted through experience, labor, and close engagement with the environment.
During the event, Dr Maja Bjelica, principal investigator of the project, presented selected results from an eco-ethnographic study on contemporary salt-working in the saltworks of Guérande in western France, where she explored the organization and contemporary practice of traditional salt-working.

We thank the company Soline, d.o.o., and all its employees for their hospitality and support in carrying out the aforementioned fundamental research project. We are pleased to have the opportunity to share our research insights, gained through collaboration, observation, and learning in the saltworks.

ZRS Koper pays special attention to transferring knowledge into practice and is therefore an important partner to the economy, public institutions, local communities, and other knowledge users seeking expert foundations, analyses, development solutions, and decision-making support.
The Consortium for knowledge and technology transfer – KTO3 project is co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, and the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The scientific work of the fundamental research project “Grain of Salt, Crystallising Cohabitation: Salt-Making as Experiential Environmental Wisdom” (J6-50196) is funded by the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency (ARIS).
