Vodišek successfully passed a sports medical examination at MCZ ZRS Koper before leaving for Brazil

Toni Vodišek, the silver medalist in Formula Kite (sailing) at the 2024 Paris Olympics, successfully passed his final medical examination today at the Mediterranean Health Center (MCZ), which operates within ZRS Koper, ahead of the start of the competition season. Tomorrow, he will depart for Brazil as part of the qualification pathway for the 2028 Summer Olympics.

“I am pleased that progress, although gradual and incremental, is continuing steadily, as it should be. With advanced technology and body composition measurements, particularly of the lower body and the area around the knees, I can also confirm in objective terms that my physical condition is appropriate,” said Toni Vodišek, who visits MCZ ZRS Koper for regular check-ups every three months.

“The specialist sports medical examination, which constitutes a systematic health assessment of the athlete, is of crucial importance in elite sport, as it enables verification of adequate preparedness. This is especially significant in Toni’s case, as he has been recovering from knee surgery following an injury,” explained Rajko Vodišek, father and coach of the top athlete from Koper. Among other things, the examination included muscle strength measurements, which were particularly important in determining whether both legs had equal strength. “Toni had to strengthen his injured knee with prescribed exercises, which he successfully completed,” he explained.

“He is now facing a month in Brazil, where the first Olympic qualification events will begin next year,” commented Vodišek Sr. During the winter months, warmer destinations are crucial for water sports training and competition. Fortaleza in Brazil will be followed by Palma de Mallorca in Spain, then France and Portugal, and finally Los Angeles, where the Koper kiteboarder will have the opportunity to familiarize himself with the Olympic venue two years in advance.

Shortly after his Olympic success in Paris two years ago, Toni Vodišek said that his focus had already shifted to Los Angeles 2028, where he is aiming for Olympic gold. “We believe that we also play an important role in Toni’s continued success,” stated Prof. Dr. Rado Pišot, Director of ZRS Koper, who met the Olympian at the Mediterranean Health Center today.
