Networking for the Future – Cultural Heritage and Digitalisation within the KRPAN Project

On Wednesday, 18 September 2024, the networking event “Cultural Heritage and Digitization” took place at the Centre for Humanities of ZRS Koper. The event was organised as part of the KRPAN project (Strengthening Research Support and Activities for Progress in European Research Projects, No. C3330-23-952006). The event was co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation and the European Union – NextGenerationEU.

Networking is crucial for the successful implementation of European centralized projects, especially at the interface between cultural heritage and digitization. The event brought together experts and representatives from various fields in Slovenia and Europe, including researchers, innovators, business representatives and cultural institutions. The aim was to foster connections between stakeholders, build partnerships and harness the power of tradition and technology for upcoming European programme calls such as Horizon Europe.

The Director of ZRS Koper, Prof. Dr. Rado Pišot, emphasised the significance of the event for the further strengthening of research work and participation in international projects in his address. He also highlighted the importance of connecting scientific institutions with the local community and expressed a desire to preserve historical and cultural heritage through new digital technologies.

The speakers were:

– Dr. Tilen Glavina, Deputy Director and Head of the Centre for Venetian History and Cultural Heritage at ZRS Koper – Restoring History: Unveiling the Past and Future of Historic Buildings,

Dr. Davor Kozmus, Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, NCP Horizon Europe Cluster 2 – Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society – Horizon Europe and Other Research Opportunities in the Field of Cultural Heritage,

Dr. Andreja Umek Venturini, Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, NCP Horizon Europe Cluster 4 – Digital, Industry and Space – What to Expect from the Digital Sector in Horizon Europe 2025,

Dr. Simona Bergoč, Directorate for Cultural Heritage at the Ministry of Culture – The European and National Framework for the Digitization of Cultural Heritage,

Mr. Sergio Calò, Director of the Venetian Cluster Network – Giotto’s Frescoes in the Scrovegni Chapel: Innovation in the Digitization of Cultural Heritage.

With 70 participants from various fields, including research, archaeology, museums and IT, the event provided an excellent opportunity to share knowledge and experience and to build new partnerships. The aim for participants was to form strong consortia ready to submit successful applications for upcoming international calls, including the Horizon Europe programme and other European initiatives.

The event concluded focusing on strengthening collaboration, sharing innovative ideas and creating opportunities for future projects that combine cultural heritage and digitization.

The event is organised within the framework of the KRPAN project – Strengthening Research Support and Activities for Progress in European Research Projects, co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, and the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
