Biography:

Professor Claudio Povolo was born in Vicenza on 03/02/1948. After his degree in Humanities at Ca’Foscari University, Venice in 1974, he became in 1976 research fellow in Modern History at History Department at the same University.
From 1976 to 1988, Povolo collaborated with Professor Gaetano Cozzi, as research Fellow in Modern history, teaching Modern History and then Political Institution History. From 1989 to 1992 he taught modern history of Friuli and Venezia Giulia Region as “Associated” Professor at Trieste University, (Faculty of Humanities). Since 1992 he’s been teaching history of political institutions at the Faculty of Humanities first then at the Department of Humanities; in the last following years (since 2010) he has kept four courses: history of political and social institutions, history of the Republic of Venice (3-years degree), History of Veneto and History of the Mediterranean. Povolo became full professor of History of Political Institutions in 2001.
Claudio Povolo is the representative of University of Venice within the Region of Veneto Scientific Commission for the valorization of the Venetian heritage in Istria and Dalmatia Region. In 2012 he was elected President of the Interuniversity Centre for the Veneto heritage (founded in Koper, Slovenia). He managed scientific relationships between the Humanities Department of Venice and the Croatian Academy of History of Zagreb (Croatia). Besides he was the person in charge of scientific aspects and the research team leader in quality of supervisor of a project Marie Curie (2013) dedicated to Feud and vendetta between customs and legal procedure in the High-Adriatic area. Within the Shared Culture Italy-Slovenia Interreg Project, Professor Povolo coordinated a research team, based at the Venice State Archive and aimed at researching cataloguing and digitizing ancient petitions (named Suppliche). These requests were usually made by Venetian Istria and Quarnaro people to the government of the Venice Republic. Povolo managed the scientific organization of modern history conferences that have been held in Koper, Slovenia since 1991. He also organized historic conferences on the territory of Buje (Acta Bulearum) and Momjan both in Croatia. He is currently leading a research team aimed at working on history and customs of the community of Perast in Montenegro. Prof. Povolo organized many international conferences with different Italian, Slovenian, Croatian and American universities and academic organizations on juridical and anthropological issues aimed at improving historic knowledge on Northern Adriatic area:

Claudio Povolo is member of several Editorial boards of scientific journals and series: Scientific member of the Editorial Board of the international journal “Annali di studi istriani e mediterranei” (Koper) and the “Acta Histriae” (Koper); scientific member of the editorial board of the national journal “Terra d’Este”; was Member of the Editorial Board of the international journal “Crime, Society and History” (Geneve); collaborator of the journal “Il diritto della Regione”.
