Liliana Vižintin graduated in natural sciences at the University of Trieste, Italy, with the highest distinction. As young researcher, she continued her studies at the Biotechnical faculty, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, where in 2003 she obtained a MSc in biotechnology with the thesis Methods for in vitro maturation and germination of cucumber pollen (Cucumis sativus L.) and in 2005 a PhD in biotechnology with the thesis Study of genetic variability of the genera Trifolium and Luzula with karyotypization, determination of genome size and molecular markers.

Since 2020 she has been employed at MIES ZRS Koper, as project manager of ECO-SMART (Cooperation Program Interreg V-A Italy-Slovenia 2014-2020). Within MIES, her researches are oriented mainly on topics related to biology, biotechnology, environmental sciences, education for sustainable development (ESD), including issues connected to ecosystem services analyses and climate change vulnerability assessment, payment for ecosystem services, climate change mitigation and adaptation, sustainable development, transition to a low-carbon, circular society and economy, awareness-raising and community capacity building.

Prior to joining ZRS, she was employed at the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning as undersecretary on LIFE IP CARE4CLIMATE project. Prior to that, she was employed in educational sector for several years. She has attended the andragogical-pedagogical training, acquired the professional exam in educational sector (teacher professional certification) and the exam for school principals. As teacher, she has acquired the highest professional title. She is also a habilitated higher education lecturer of many professional subjects.

She has published numerous original scientific, professional articles and conference papers. Furthermore, she has been a mentor of many diploma theses. Her personal bibliography currently includes about 60 items.

Liliana Vižintin was employed as research assistant at the Biotechnical Faculty of University of Ljubljana and ZRS Koper. She also received a fellowship for research work at the Institute of Biology of the University of Trieste, Italy. She attended a professional training in Innovation Management in Area Science Park Trieste (Italy) and, as part of that, an internship as innovation knowledge transfer manager at Industrial Liaisone Office (ILO) of ELETTRA, a multidisciplinary Synchrotron Light Laboratory in AREA Science Park. Furthermore, she has attender different trainings programs of Climate-KIC, which is the Europe's largest public-private innovation partnership focused on climate innovation to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

She was involved in numerous national and international projects (Interreg, Erasmus +, EEA and Norway Grants, LIFE). She has attended various educational programs in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Iceland, Sweden and Norway. Furthermore, she has attended numerous international professional and research conferences and events in Europe. Since 2014, he has been actively participating in the citizens' initiative for Integral Green Slovenia.
